Past, Present, Future

How a matter came to be, and where it is heading

History

Three cards read as past, present and future make up the most widely used spread in modern tarot. Its shape recalls the three Norns of Norse myth: Urd for what has been, Verdandi for what is coming to be, and Skuld for what shall be. It is short, clear and the best place to start.

What to ask

Any question where you want to see how things came to be and where they lead: a relationship, a job, a change under way.

The positions

123
  1. 1PastWhat has already happened and still shapes things: how this began.
  2. 2PresentWhere you stand now, and the true heart of the matter.
  3. 3FutureWhere things go if you keep to the current course.
